Games GDD

This week we got the opportunity to read about how to make a Game Design Document (GDD) as we will be creating one for our own game this week.

The purpose of a GDD is to basically gather all your ideas together for planning out your game. The GDD should show a basic idea of your whole game laid out. It should feature things such as your characters, story (if there is one), sound design, art style, enemies, map layout, controls, and much more depending on the scope of your game. This video by BenderWaffles goes into the perfect amount of description as to give you an idea of what your GDD should look like and what it should feature based on your game genre. He even states how some sections even overlap such as his example, Game Flow isn't entirely necessary as the majority of his information for it was shown in the summary.

I also read this article about Design Considerations by Greg Aleknevicus, which makes you consider you game from a different perspective such as are the colours of your game distinguishable enough that people with colour blindness can tell what is what and if not are the pieces distinguishable from one another. There's attention drawn to blindly testing your game yourself, seeing if someone new to the game would be easily able to follow the rules and know what to do without any prior knowledge.

This information will be vital and hopefully help me figure out much more easily what content I should put into my GDD.
